SUPERVISOR OF GENERATION

 

A challenging and unique opportunity is available for a highly motivated and proactive individual to lead the maintenance and operation activities of Orillia Power’s generation facilities, which include three water power generating stations and seven solar installations. Reporting to the President & CEO, this position will supervise and manage a group of tradespeople and operations staff to help achieve the company’s goals and objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver strategies to meet company workload and maintain leading workplace safety practices
  • Provide strong leadership to team, including provision of technical advice / direction as required
  • Develop, implement and maintain an effective preventive maintenance / condition monitoring program
  • Assist in development and implementation of operating and capital budgets, including review and scheduling of workforce resources and equipment
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot problems and clearly communicate issues to staff and management
  • Undertake procurement activities for contractors and materials, following company purchasing policies
  • Ensure regulatory obligations under applicable acts and legislation are met, including, but not limited to, the Occupational Health and Safety Act & Regulations, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Environmental Protection Act, etc. and effectively communicate with the applicable agencies such as MOL, MOECC, MRF, PCA, IHSA, and ESA to ensure regulatory and operational compliance
  • Effectively manage contractors and subcontractors to ensure achievement of quality, safety, and environmental performance expectations
  • Create a climate in which employees want to excel and contribute to team development and success by effectively recruiting, directing and coaching staff members
  • Promote individual job performance and accountability, as well as inspiring the team to work collectively to achieve company successEducation & Experience Requirements:
  • Licensed Electrician, Millwright or recognized equivalent (Licensed Master Electrician an asset)
  • 10 years’ experience in hydro-electric generation or heavy industrial plant, with minimum 5 years in a supervisory role (preferably in a multi-trade environment)
  • Superior leadership, organization, communication and project management skills
  • A reputation for integrity, common sense, sound judgment, problem solving and effective change management
  • Control Centre operations (knowledge of SCADA systems would be an asset)
  • Experience in managing budgets, developing proposals, policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct labour relations in a unionized environment
  • Proficiency and experience in implementing operational, legal and regulatory requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act & Regulations in industrial and construction workplaces
